A new Georgia law clarifies what a driver must do when passing or overtaking a school bus by adding an exception to current law. The change became effective on February 15, 2019.

There are a number of rules about when approaching or passing drivers have to stop for a school bus. This law leaves those rules basically intact adding one exceptions to those rules.

The exception deals with separate roadways. A separate roadway is one that is separated bya grass median, unpaved area, or a physical barrier. Drivers on the opposite side from a school bus do not have to stop for a school bus on the other roadway.
